Hi lovelies,

So, this is the start of another new series on this blog (exciting right?! Two new series starting so soon after each other! :) So, at the end of each month, I will be doing a post about what I liked best about this month. It can be tangible or not - just things that I did like about each month. Hopefully, it will give me to look back on at the end of the year and I can see exactly what was good about each month. So, in no particular order, here are the things I liked about this month...

Inspired by: Sculptures By The Sea

Hi there everyone!

So, I've decided to start a new series on my blog here where I do nail art that has to be inspired by something. (Actually, I think that was fairly self explanatory, but, oh well).

I've done a couple of inspired designs (like my dress ones (here) and my more recent Lily Allen ones), but I really think doing a more regular ones will help my technique and design execution. Or at least, that's what I hope.

Anyway, this one is inspired by the Sculptures by the Sea, which is a annual art exhibition and competition that's held at Cottesloe Beach in Perth. It was the first time I've gone and I really liked it, although I will admit I was a little tired, crotchety and over it by the end. It was really windy, there was a lot of walking in the sand, and I just don't get a lot of art. I mean, I can appreciate it for it's beauty and construction, but I can't look at it a see it as representation of something or read meanings into stuff or whatever it is that Opinionated (my art student sister) sees when she looks at them.

Confessions of a Dirty Girl (Who Also Likes Control)

Hi there lovelies,

I haven’t had a shower in just under a week now and the time that has elapsed since my hair was last in contact with shampoo and conditioner is rapidly approaching the 3-week mark. Or at, they are my best guesses. I don’t actually keep track.

It’s nothing new, the hair-washing thing. I hate washing my hair. I hate it with a passion. I think it stems from when I was in the depthsof anorexia and hair washing was too tiring for words and whenever I did muster the energy to do the hair-washing thing, my hair just came out in clumps. And I mean clumps. Like actual handfuls of hair so big I used to have to stop the shower twice to unblock the drain because of all my hair. I hated that. The feel of hair between my fingers, getting caught around my nails, tangled in my flannel. I hated the deadness of it, having to scoop out the dead mess with my fingers out it in the bin, I hated the way it littered my bathroom, little dead reminders of what to expect when I washed my hair.

Matte Geometric Nails

Hey lovelies,

So, I have a slightly different nail design to show you today. It's been cooling down in Perth recently (I even had to use my duvet all night last night!) and I got really excited to use some of my cooler colours, instead of the super bright ones I've been using recently (well, except for my storm nails).

I also really wanted to use my matte top coat more since I almost never use it. I'm not really sure why, since I really like a matte look. Anyway, based on those constraints, this is my final design

What I Learned From Beauty School

Hi lovelies,

I've now been finished my nail course for a week and a half, and I thought I might put together a post about what I learned from my experiences.

I went to the WA Academy, which I would highly recommend for anyone in Perth looking to go down that route. I found my lecturers lovely and very knowledgeable and the whole academy was very professional looking but also very welcoming.

Those towels so did not look like that! I know because I had to fold a lot!

So, onto what I learnt. For this post, I'm going to keep it very general and more focused on my experience as a whole, rather than stuff that I learnt in regards to nails. I think I'll talk more on that later.

Hello lovelies,

So, for the last week or so I've been obsessed with Lily Allen's latest song Hard Out Here. I've liked some of her earlier stuff, but found some to hard to handle (my poor 12 year old brain couldn't handle all that swearing!). But, this song, I just love!

The lyrics are just so clever and her voice is just amazing. She also looks just fabulous in the music video (although I'm just not sure what I think of the video on the whole - it was veeeery different to what I expected!). After seeing the cover for Hard Out Here, I just knew I was going to have to do her nails. And this is what they looked like.

Self Care Help Package

Hello my darling lovelies,

I thought that this post was fairly timely to do, as I have emerged again from the cocoon of my own mind and am taking an interest in things around me once more. I've had a bit of a rough time recently, but fingers crossed the worst is over and things will be looking up.

However, I know that life won't always be going up for me, and I know I will crash down again - it's what happens when you deal with depression. So, what I thought I'd do is put together a little post on self-care and things that I find help me when I'm struggling. And, before you starting clicking the exit button, I'm not going to be telling you to 'get some sleep', 'go to the gym' or 'eat healthily'. Those tips are bogus, or at least, that's what I think. When I feel like crap, I don't want to be told to 'make myself a nice salad' or 'shake up my routine by surprising my spouse at the office'. Because I fail to see how eating a salad will make me not depressed and because I, along with a lot of people, don't have a spouse. I'm not joking, those were tips I found while doing some research.

Hi lovelies,

I have just a short post for you today.

I thought that it is high time for me to get back into painting my nails excessively with crazy designs now that my nail course is nearly over. I have to say, that is one thing that I am veeery glad about, the fact that my poor little nails no longer have product on and off and on and off of them. In the last 8 weeks, they have have 2 and a half sets of acrylics, one set of gels and two manicures - one including a paraffin soak that my nails did not like at all! Not that I really begrudge it - the knowledge I have gained from this course far outweighs the cost of some broken, short and very much weakened nails.
