Powder Perfect Christmas Collection Review

Monday, 1 December 2014

Hi everyone!

So just recently I got my first polishes from Powder Perfect and am so excited about them! In case you didn't know, Powder Perfect is an Australian indie brand that's based in Queensland.

While I have known about them for a while, I'd never actually bought anything from them until now. (This was mostly due to my limited amount of disposable income and the fact that indie's are just more expensive than mainstream polishes and also, shipping costs..)

However, when I saw Cassie's review of their Christmas Collection over on the Reluctant Femme, I knew I had to buy at least some of them!

In hindsight, I possibly should have branched out of the red glitters but they were both so pretty and I don't have any red glitters and I wanted them both. So the polishes I ended up with were It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas and Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal.

First up is It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, which is a bright fire-engine red. I know it doesn't look it in these pictures, but it is actually wonderfully sparkly in real life. It's got just the right amount of holo mixed in amongst the glitters to give it an extra lift while still keeping it within the 'glitter polish' range, rather than the 'holo polish' range.

The opacity of this polish is amazing - two coats is just perfect for this polish and no undies are needed. I know have just said this, but the sparkle in this really is amazing. It twinkles even under artificial light but in the sun it's really quite breath-taking. There is so much depth in this polish it's unbelievable. The formula was also perfect, not too runny, not too thick and no dabbing or placing of the polish was required.

My other new purchase is Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal (of which my pictures are much more true to life). This is also a breath-taking glitter and from what I've read in reviews and such like, probably the general favourite of the collection. It's a dark, crimson, almost blood-red colour but overall, more subdued than It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. This isn't to say that it is packed full of glitters though - it has a beautiful mix of red, holo and even some blue-ish glitters.

The coverage wasn't quite as good on this polish - I needed 3 coats to achieve full opacity. The formula was also the tinsiest bit runnier than It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas but still really, really good.

Both polishes dried to a slightly gritty, matte texture, but with top coat it makes everything perfectly smooth and shiny (all pictures are shown with top coat).

Overall, I was really thoroughly impressed with everything. Their website was easy and straightforward to understand and payment was simple. Shipping was faster than I expected (always a bonus) and when I got my package, everything was securely wrapped and in now danger of breaking or leaking. I also received a little hand-written note from Jacinta (the owner of the business), which was a lovely touch and made everything seem more personal - which I really like, especially since I do so much of my shopping online.

Personally, my favourite out of the two is definitely It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas because it's so bright and so sparkly and so stunning eye-catching. To me, it epitomes everything a Christmas polish should be. It full of life and fun and amazement and I love it. But Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal has a heaps cool name and is still an amazing polish and both are definitely worth your money. :)
