What I Liked About July

Hi lovelies!

So we're at the end of another month and that means it's time for another round of my Monthly Favourites! Without further ado, here they are....

How To Train Your Dragon 2
Okay, technically this should have gone in the June Monthly Favourites, but it didn't and anyway, a month later and I'm still raving about. Wait, I went and saw it for the second time in July, so that totally makes it count. Right? Anyway, I'm sure you're thinking, 'Dani, it really isn't that great. Like, it's pretty good, but not at the level that you like it'. (It's also very true, I legitimately know 95% of the lines from the first movie, in order. I can recite entire scenes for you and I know large parts of the soundtrack off by heart) but I also don't care. I know it's illogical and irrational for me to love these movies as much as I do, but I love them anyway. They are among my favourite movies of all time, if not my absolute favourite.

I don't know why I love them as much as I do. But when I went to watch the second movie at the cinemas, I went in with a smile on my face and I smiled the whole movie, with the exception of the times I was crying. The characters are three dimensional and interesting, the relationships are interesting, visually, it's spectacular (especially in 3D) and somehow, they make me want to be a better person. They make me want to be as brave as Hiccup, as loyal as Toothless, as sure as Astrid, as funny as Gobber, as nerdy as Fishlegs and as tough as Stoick.

Jonsi
So I swear that not all of this post is going to be related to How To Train Your Dragon, just bits of it. :) I discovered Jonsi from the HTTYD soundtrack (he sings the end credit songs in both movies) but I've rapidly fallen in love with the rest of his work as well. I find a lot of his stuff to be just beautiful, in the lyrics, instrumentation and the melodies. I love the way he uses fairly unconventional instruments in his songs, like the bowed guitar, celesta, ukulele, kalimba and the glockenspiel. It gives a real haunting, magical sense to his music and I really like it. Strangely, some of his songs remind me of Owl City, but that could just be me being weird. :) Also, this song is beautiful and the fact that it's got clips from HTTYD just makes it better!!

Face Of Australia Dark Side Collection
I'm going to be really honest here and say that they are very few polish collections that are released that I really must have. Generally I am pretty good at keeping my polish purchases fairly low key, but these ones, well, I just had to have them all. I just really, really like them. If you want to read more about the actual polishes and not just me rave about them, check out my review.

Orange Is The New Black
Okay so I jumped on this band wagon a little late, but hey, I do that with practically every TV show I watch, ever. But that's okay. It means I get to watch lots at the same time. Anyway, I think it's really, really good. I love how all the characters and different and so well-developed. Often with TV shows you get one or two well-developed characters and the rest are very two-dimensional but with OITNB I feel like right from the very beginning there are lots of characters that have already been fleshed out. I also like how every episode flows into each other and there isn't a huge amount of 'let's see who we haven't talked about for a while and give them an episode with lots of feels'. I feel like everything has been planned waaay in advance.

Make-Up (in general?? Can I count that?)
I can't remember if I have mentioned this previously, but I'm currently enrolled in a Cert II Make-Up course and I'm loving it! Do I honestly think I'm going to use it as part of my career? Nope. I like make-up, but I wouldn't want to do it for a job. But I am loving the course and have learned so much! My final assessment is tomorrow, so I'm very, very close to finishing. It's been so fun to learn new techniques and tips and tricks from professionals and be able to use lots and lots of different products, especially ones I wouldn't necessarily buy myself. Which brings me to the next item on my list...

Napoleon Perdis China Doll Gel Eyeliner
Now this is something I would never buy for myself on whim. Napoleon stuff is soooo expensive and what if I didn't like it?? We use all Napoleon products at the academy and it's been really great to be able to try everything to see which is actually worth forking out the extra money for. And I really like this eyeliner. It was actually the first time I've ever used gel eyeliner and it was actually way easier that I thought it was going to be. I honestly thought it was going to at least as hard as liquid liner, but it's not! It's much easier than liquid and you can still achieve the same crisp line and it's much more long lasting than pencil so really, it's a win-win situation. Granted, this is the only gel liner I have ever used, so I will be testing a couple of drugstore products to see whether the Napoleon one is worth all that extra dosh. :)

My New ILNP Polishes
I don't actually buy a huge amount from indie brands because shipping is expensive and polish is expensive and I don't have that much extra cash lying around but I try to buy more indie polishes and less mainstream ones where I can because I love them and I like being able to support small businesses. But I did buy a bunch of polishes from the amazing Amercian indie brand ILNP recently because they were on sale and it was my last chance to grab some of them and because the more I bought, the less the shipping costs were per bottle. (I justified it in my mind alright?). But I don't regret it because they are amazing! My favourites are probably Indie Go and Kings and Queens but to be honest, they are all lovely. :)

My New Room
Over the past month and a bit, me and my sister have been doing a lot of renovations of the two spare rooms in our house so that we can (finally) have our own rooms. After sharing for the whole of our lives, we're pretty stoked to finally have our own spaces. And it's so nice to be able to do what I want with a room. I got to choose my own wall colour and bed style and furniture style and everything is just the way I want it. I love it. The only thing left to do is find a better storage solution for my rapidly expanding make-up collection and less rapidly but still expanding nail polish collection. But that's an on going problem. :)

All in all, this month has been a pretty good month for me. Now that I've finished with the room renovations and I'm wrapping up my make-up course, I'm hoping that I'm going to be able to start blogging a little more regularly because I really do love it, but hey, I've always been a little sporadic, so I won't make any promises!
