Face of Australia Dark Side Review | Part Two

Wednesday, 23 July 2014

Okay, so today I'm back with the second half of my Face of Australia Dark Side collection review. If you missed the first part, you can find it here.

First up we have Ursula, named for the wicked sea witch from the Little Mermaid.

This is an absolutely beautiful shade and considering my love for all things purple, I know this will get a lot of use! This was an easy two coats. I think this polish is exceeding true to it's namesake and I would make no (hypothetical) suggestions to improve this polish for authenticity and accuracy. :)

Right, so that is all the cremes done and now we get into the glitters and stuff. Yay! :)

This first one is Voldemort, named after the Dark Lord himself.

This is another beautiful shade and while it is not something I would have gone with had I been charged with the task of creating a polish named Voldemort, but I actually think it's surprisingly accurate. This has black and teal hex and bar glitters in a clear base and is quite dense. This was one coat dabbed over Mystique on my index and ring finger and one coat by itself on my other three fingers. I found the polish very easy to use and I needed no fishing whatsoever to get all those lovely glitters! :)

Next up we have this lovely, named Darth Vader (the reason for which still escapes me).

This is not quite as dense as Voldemort and has metallic purple, black and brown hex and bar glitters in a clear base. This is two coats over Ursula. Now, let me say that I have racked my brains over the last week to try and discover why this one is called Darth Vader and still, the reason escapes me. I have absolutely no idea why Darth Vader is purple but if anyone else has any inklings at all - please let me know as it is driving me mad! It's not his light-saber, because that's red and it's not his light-saber from when he was Anakin, as that was blue. I have no clue! If I had been doing this collection, I would have changed the the purple glitters to red ones - I feel that is much more Darth Vader-like. :)

And the last one in this collection is Magneto. This is also the second polish in the collection named for characters in the X-Men series.

Sorry for the slightly dodge and grainy pic
In the bottle, this looked amazing and I was so excited to get it on my nails. And then, I did get it on my nails and it didn't look so great. While it did look very nice, it just wasn't as fantastic as it first appeared in the bottle. In the bottle it's a fantastic silver and pink duochrome, with hints of blue and even a little green at some angles. On the fingers, I found the effect lessened quite a lot. In fairness to this polish, the only other duochromes and multichromes I have to compare it to are ones from I Love Nail Polish, which are amazing and beyond the quality expected of a fairly cheap drugstore brand. However, it is nice and the effect is heightened when layered over black. In this swatch my index and ring finger show three coats of Magneto by itself and my pinky and middle finger show three coats over black. As a polish representation of Magneto through, I think it's really well done.

So, the bottom lines for these polishes? They are worth the money. The formula on all are good, while some are great, like Ursula, Darth Vader and Voldemort. The colours are all lovely and very nice for winter shades. And while they aren't all true to their namesake (in my humble opinion), why would you pass up the opportunity to have the worlds best (worst?) villains on your nails? :)

You can find these in your local Big W, Priceline, K-Mart or online at FashionAddict and they retail at $4.95
