Fake Tattoos Nail Tattoos Review + Birthday Nautical Nails!

Wednesday, 26 February 2014

Hi lovelies,

A couple of weeks ago, I received my order from Fake Tattoos, which is a Scandinavian based company that sells, obviously, fake tattoos. I hadn't even known you could get nail tattoos until I saw this post over at More Nail Polish. I immediately went, 'that is so cool I want some!'. Luckily, I was able to get some on sale and guess what?? They do free shipping worldwide. :)

I bought the Ocean Design and Bird design, both of which I am very happy with.

They both retail at 6 pounds (AUS$11.21) but are on sale for 3.80 pounds at the moment (AUS$7.04). In the Ocean packet you receive 62 tattoos and in the Bird packet you receive 80.

Also, the shipping times were really, really good. They came in just over a week, which I was not expecting at all! Still, it was a lovely surprise.

The first time I got to test these out was for my birthday party a couple of weeks ago. I had just bought myself a new dress and it was very nautically themed so, what better time to test out my new nail tattoos?

Also, look guys it's my right hand! The anchor turned out better on this one, so I thought I'd better show it. I'm still no good at photography with my left hand though, I don't know where that shadow came from! :)

I started with a base coat of My Boyfriend Scales Walls by OPI (pictured) on all nails and when dry, applied striping tape to all fingers except my ring finger and thumb. I applied Firefox by Revlon (red) and Blueberry by Mode (blue) to alternate fingers and removed the striping tape.

As for the tattoos, they applied really quite well. The anchor on my left hand did smudge a little when I removed it (I don't think my cloth was wet enough) and so I had to touch it up with a little bit of black nail polish. The ones of my thumb also applied well. However, as you can probably see in the pictures, the boat nearest my cuticle was a little bit uneven as I had to rip the remaining bit (the bit that went over on the skin behind the nail) away. In retrospect, it would have been better to cut the tattoo where I wanted it to end. Oh, and make sure you apply it completely dry polish, otherwise the cloth leaves little marks (like pillow marks) on the nail polish.

Anyway, those are all very minor complaints and mostly to do with me, not the tattoos, and would easily be remedied by a little more practice.

I got so many compliments on my nails that night and had a lovely time overall. Scarily, it does mean that I am officially an adult, which is partly terrifying and partly exciting! For my party, I really did debate having a theme, which I always do, but decided against it, thinking people would be 'too old' for that kind of thing. In hindsight, I'm kind of sad that I didn't end up with a theme, as I really, really love themed parties and I adore getting dressed up into costumes. But, there is always next year. :)
